Licensing is scoped before production. Tell me your event, season and video plans so the quote covers the intended use.

Most people in this market came to music through cheer. I came the other way — thirty years making records, three Billboard Dance Club Songs number ones, and a studio that finishes other people’s records for a living. Cheer is the newer line, and it started the ordinary way: my daughters compete.

What that buys a gym is not novelty. It is a mix built by someone who does this at a professional standard every week of the year, sourced from licensed catalogues, and handed over with paperwork a coach can put on the registration desk.

How the licensing works

Before the price

Clearance before production
The quote identifies the music source, required permissions and intended uses. Buying a consumer download does not by itself grant the rights to edit it into a competition mix.
Paperwork for your event
Keep the licensing documents with your routine and confirm your event producer’s current requirements before competing. Documentation is prepared for the team and the uses agreed in the project.
Music sources
Music is sourced from licensed catalogs. The selected provider’s terms determine permitted edits, coverage and any indemnity; these are confirmed before work begins.
Video and social media
A competition license may not cover video synchronization, streaming or social uploads. Include those plans in the brief so the required permissions can be checked and quoted.
Returning next season
License length, territory and team coverage depend on the selected music. Before reusing a mix, check whether the next season needs renewed permissions.

Licence costs are passed through at cost plus handling and are not included in the tier price — they vary by track and by catalogue, and marking them up quietly is how this market gets a bad name. A $199 deposit reserves the slot and comes off the total.

One thing I don't do

Every track needs the appropriate permissions before it enters a competition mix. Event requirements and licensing terms vary; we check the intended use before production. USA Cheer’s music provider directory is not an endorsement or a substitute for licensing. Read USA Cheer’s music guidance.

Send the routine, the eight-counts and the season. You get a quote and a licensing plan, in that order.
